Chuck: Hello and welcome to another episode of Top of the Topics! The show where if you don’t know the news … Audience: You Lose! Chuck: Let’s meet today’s contestants: ladies and gentlemen, say hello to Megan and Wally! Chuck: Megan, Wally, welcome to the show! Both: Thanks Chuck! Chuck: Megan, back and better than ever! Megan: Awww! Shucks, Chuck! Chuck: And Wally, welcome! Wanna walk away with a win?! Wally: Right on! Chuck: Fire!! But first, we’ve gotta head on over to Clever Corner! We’ve just GOTTA welcome back everyone’s favorite resident know-it-all! Here she is, it’s Sally Smartypants! Sally? Sally: Thanks Chuck! Today’s Topic is: The 2022 Taichung Jazz Festival! Chuck: Ooooo-Ee! Gotta love that jazz! OK, Megan, Wally, I’ll give you a word, you give us a definition. First correct answer wins. Fingers on buzzers. Ready? … Word one: Jazz Megan. Megan: Jazz is like: (she does an impression of a Jazz trumpet …) Chuck: Megan! Meg … That’s beautiful but, we need a definition, not an impression! Megan: Oh yeah! Sorry Chuck … ! It’s a genre of music, like K-Pop or Hip Hop! Chuck: That’s it! We got there in the end, one to Megan! Sally? Sally: Jazz originated in the USA in the early 20th Century. Since then its popularity has spread across the globe, thanks to all of its incredibly diverse, imaginative, and timeless creatives worldwide. Chuck: Word two: ‘Diverse’ Wally. Wally: Anything that includes lots of people from all kinds of backgrounds, like different cultures, ethnicities, or genders! Chuck: Correct! One point Wally! Sally? Sally: Jazz has such a diverse fan base! Which is why this year the Taichung Jazz Festival, with help from the NDC, provided bilingual volunteers on-site, helping all English students and speakers better enjoy their huge range of wonderful activities! Chuck: Word three: ‘Volunteers’ Wally Wally: People who give their time for free, to support the things they love! Chuck: That’s it! Two points to you Wally! Sally? Sally: Thanks to all their hard-working volunteers, the millions of guests at the fest this year could comfortably chat with other jazz fans from all over the world! As well as watch live music, take part in fun competitions, and make beautiful music together! Chuck: Uh-oh! That sound means we’ve run out of time, and Wally’s our winner with two points! Wally: I love jazz! Sorry to miss such a great fest! Sally: There’s still time! You can find lots of great bilingual content via the festival’s social media, with videos, cartoons, and more!
