Nora: The G7 Hiroshima 2023 Summit.

The annual G7 Summit is an international forum for the leaders of all seven member states to meet. That’s France, the USA, the UK, Germany, Japan, Italy, and Canada. This year they’re discussing issues like global warming, the international food crisis, and energy security.

All member states share the responsibility of running the summit. This year is Japan’s turn. Its elected head of state, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, is the group’s current president. Hiroshima will be the venue for this year’s events, a modern city on Japan’s Honshu Island. US forces dropped a nuclear weapon on Hiroshima in 1945, in an effort to end the Second World War. Today it stands as a reminder of the importance of world peace and nuclear disarmament.
