The month of Ramadan
An annual Islamic observation of faith, fasting, reflection, and community, practiced by Muslims worldwide in honor of the Prophet Muhammad’s first revelation. It lasts for around 30 days, from the sighting of one crescent moon to the next, and is an important part of the Islamic calendar.
Muslims give up certain things during Ramadan, like food and drink, as a way to relate with those less fortunate. This is called ‘fasting’. Fasting in the month of Ramadan is one of the Five Pillars of Islam, guiding principles and practices that are considered compulsory for all able-bodied adult Muslims.
