Nora: Carnivals around the globe!

After being canceled for two years, thanks to the global pandemic, many of the world’s best carnivals are now back in business, and bigger than ever!

Most carnivals are related to Christianity. They happen just before Lent, a time when Christians demonstrate their faith by quitting things like sugar, meat, and dairy. Carnivals are a time to indulge in those things before giving them up!

They feature big public celebrations, like parades, street parties, live performances, and circus tricks! They always have lots of delicious food and drink, colorful costumes, and traditional folk customs.

Brazil’s Rio Carnival is considered the biggest in the world, hosting over two million guests every day! Nice Carnival in France is the oldest, with evidence of it from over 700 years ago. Italy’s Venice Carnival is considered the grandest, famous for its ornate masks and exclusive balls.
